Fifth Avenue Becomes A Bird Sanctuary
Fifth Avenue Becomes A Bird Sanctuary
In a unanimous vote yesterday, the New York City Council approved a measure that will turn Fifth Avenue into a bird sanctuary.
The change will come into effect on July 1st and will prohibit all vehicular traffic on the avenue between 34th Street and 59th Street. The measure was proposed by Councilman Daniel Garodnick in an effort to make the city more hospitable for birds.
"Fifth Avenue is one of the most popular tourist destinations in New York City, and we want to make sure it's also a safe place for our feathered friends," said Garodnick in a statement. "With this measure, we're ensuring that birds can move about freely and safely on one of our most iconic streets."
Fifth Avenue is already home to several major parks, including Bryant Park, Madison Square Park, and Union Square Park. According to the Department of Transportation, there were only three pedestrian fatalities on Fifth Avenue between 2008 and 2017.
Pigeons Take Over Central Park
In recent months, the pigeon population in Central Park has exploded. The birds can now be found everywhere in the 843 acre park, and they are becoming a major nuisance.
The Parks Department has tried various methods to get rid of the pigeons, but so far nothing has worked. The agency has tried using scare tactics, such as setting off fireworks or playing loud music, but the pigeons just become more frightened and stay away for only a short time. They have also tried humane methods, such as relocating the pigeons to other areas or giving them food that makes them sick, but these methods have not been successful either.
The pigeons are now becoming a health hazard. They are spreading disease and feces all over the park, and their droppings are causing damage to surfaces. In addition, the birds are creating a noise nuisance by cooing and squawking all day long.
There is no easy solution to this problem, but something needs to be done before it gets worse. Perhaps the Parks Department should consider hiring a professional pest control company to get rid of the pigeons once and for all.
Starlings Return To Times Square
For the past several years, Times Square has been devoid of starlings. But this year, the birds have returned in force.
Why did the starlings leave Times Square in the first place? Nobody is quite sure. Some people say that it's because of all of the construction that was going on in the area. Others say that it's because of the increase in street crime.
Whatever the reason, their return is good news for everyone who enjoys watching them fly around. The sight and sound of thousands of starlings flocking together is truly a sight to behold.
The Great Migration Of The Geese
This time of year, the geese are on the move. They travel in their large flocks, flying south for the winter. Some people call it The Great Migration of the Geese.
The geese have been migrating this way for thousands of years. Nobody knows exactly why they do it, but scientists believe that they migrate to escape the cold weather and find food.
During their journey, the geese fly over many different types of terrain. They cross mountains, rivers and even deserts. Sometimes they even have to fly over large bodies of water.
This migration is a dangerous journey. The geese can be attacked by predators or get lost in bad weather. But they continue to migrate every year because it is important to them.
The sight of a flock of geese flying overhead is a beautiful sight. It is a reminder that nature is always in motion, and that we are all part of it.
